Scholarships & Charities


The Greater Ramsey chapter of UNICO awarded scholarships totaling $4500 to seven outstanding 2011graduates from three local high schools. The memorial scholarships are named for John J. Nunziata Sr. and Lawrence Inserra Sr. These awards are funded through the generosity of the Nunziata and Inserra families and the members of Ramsey UNICO.
 Recipients of this year’s scholarships are:

 Anthony Schifano, Jill Padovano, Joseph Calabria, Melanie Strollo
 and Erin Karpovich from Ramsey High School;

Michael Proscia from Don Bosco Prep

 Kyle Gugliotta from Saint Joseph Regional High School

These outstanding students of Italian-American ancestry have distinguished themselves through academic achievement and school/community activities. Louis LaVigna, President of the Greater Ramsey UNICO Chapter, recognized the achievements
of the scholarship recipients saying, “UNICO’s commitment to support education is part of our tradition. These impressive young scholars will be the future leaders in our society. We are proud to support them as they embark on their college experience.”  John Nunziata, UNICO’s Scholarship Chairperson and President of the Ramsey Board of Education, presented the awards at the Ramsey High School Scholarship ceremony acknowledging the students’ success in high school and their future potential.

Each year, our chapter bestows the Brian Piccolo Award to two high school athletes that best exemplify the courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication of the late Brian Piccolo.  Honorees are nominated by their coaches.
